A beautiful hymn for this season of thanks:
Now Thank We All Our God
Now thank we all our God, with heart and hands and voices,
who wondrous things has done, in whom this world rejoices;
who from our mothers’ arms has blessed us on our way
with countless gifts of love, and still is ours today.
O may this bounteous God through all our life be near us,
with ever joyful hearts and blessed peace to cheer us;
and keep us still in grace, and guide us when perplexed;
and free us from all ills, in this world and the next.
All praise and thanks to God the Father now be given;
the Son, and him who reigns with them in highest heaven;
the one eternal God, whom earth and heaven adore;
for thus it was, is now, and shall be evermore.
WORDS: Martin Rinkart, 1636
MUSIC: Johann Cruger, 1647
Faith & Recovery Ministry
We were very busy with the F&R Ministry this past weekend. Saturday we had volunteers and participants at a Slingshot event at Journey Christian Church. This is a monthly event in partnership with other churches, consisting of fun, fitness and fellowship with our neighbors in the Richmond recovery community. We have hosted this previously at Gayton and likely will again in ’25.
This Sunday afternoon, we had our duffel bag event – and packed 108 men’s & women’s bags. We periodically pack duffel bags with essential items like toiletries, sheets, towel/washcloth, blanket, etc. The duffel bag also serves as storage and luggage as participants typically move between different recovery houses. Each bag also includes a Christian devotional and handwritten note of encouragement from our church members. You can still sponsor one of these bags, which are $70 each – just note that amount in the memo of your check or notes if giving online.
We would like to thank all the volunteers who contributed to packing the duffel bags and staffing/transporting for Slingshot – and who regularly contribute their time for things like weekly meals/fellowship, transportation to/from church, etc. You are a blessing…the hands and feet!! And we NEED more volunteers – particularly Sunday drivers!
If you would like to volunteer or learn more, please contact Mike Brumagin at mikebrum89@gmail.com.
Care Ministries Angel Tree is almost here! Look in the lobby starting Sunday, November 24. There will be over 100 angels needing adoption. This year as in the past, there are angels for our own Care Ministry families as well as Better2gether families. Gift requests will range from toys for children, grocery gift cards and items for inclusion in family bags. Family bags are assembled for families filled with fun food items, games and other needs that will help make their Christmas a little more special. Angels will be color coded this year. The color will be based on when the gifts must be returned. There will be directions on the tree. Please don’t wrap your gifts. Adopt an angel and help make someone’s Christmas a merry one!
Cereal - The Breakfast of Champions!
Our Food Pantry relies mostly on donations. Pick up a couple extra boxes of cereal during the month of November. As always, any and all donations are appreciated.
For this year's Christmas season, the Northside Outreach Center will be sponsoring up to 25 families with assistance with Christmas toys. The NOC will provide each sponsor with a list of gift options for the child or children in the family they are supporting. There will be a spending limit. A fellowship dinner will be held at The Northside Outreach Center on December 14th at 4:30pm for families to pick up the gifts for their children.
