"Choosing Peace/Rejecting Violence"

1 Samuel 24-26

Pastor Bryon LePere will be sharing the message this Sunday. There will be Kids Ministry Programming this Sunday during Worship at 10:00am and during the 11:00am Bible Study hour.

Please join us on October 15th for a talk about anxiety in children and teens. Clinical anxiety has been on the rise for the last several years. It is the most common emotional problem in children, and it is often overlooked or misunderstood. Kara Leslie, licensed school psychologist and behavior analyst, will be leading our discussion. Kara is in private practice with Westhampton Family Psychologists, where she specializes in offering psychoeducational assessments to children and adolescents experiencing challenges with behavior, learning, and social-emotional development. We'll use our time together to talk about how parents can recognize the difference between typical worry and anxiety. Kara will share practical strategies to help kids overcome anxiety. Finally, we'll discuss resources that will help you respond to your child's worries and how to get professional help if needed.

The Baptist General Association of Virginia Disaster Relief is on the ground in Southwest Virginia (Damascus/Abingdon area) which has significant damage from hurricane Helene. They have put a callout for volunteers in several areas and are also receiving donations that go directly to the disaster efforts. Below you will find links to learn more about both of these options.

FLOOD BUCKET COLLECTION

BGAV will be collecting flood buckets as part of our response efforts to Hurricane Helene. Please collect ONLY the requested items, place them in an appropriate bucket, and deliver them to one of the official collection sites.

The choir is having rehearsals for the Christmas program on Wednesdays at 6:30pm in the Worship Center, and all are invited! No previous choral experience required. Interested? Contact Matt White at matt@gayton.church. Hope to see you there!

Hello, everyone! Handbells are back! And you’re invited! Able to read music? Great! Can’t identify music notes? Even better!!! The music is easy and the rehearsals are fun!

Rehearsals will be Wednesday evenings - 7:40pm - 8:30pm - Room 220

Love with all your heart…

An unemotional love is inconceivable. Love for the good must involve displeasure and grief for the evil. God is not an almighty sultan reigning aloof, He is right in the throes of life, and it is there that emotion shows itself. 

The look of Jesus will mean a heart broken forever from allegiance to any other person or thing. Has Jesus ever looked at you? The look of Jesus transforms and transfixes. Where you are “soft” with God is where the Lord has looked at you. If you are hard and vindictive, insistent on your own way, certain that the other person is more likely to be in the wrong than you are, it is an indication that there are whole tracts of your nature that have never been transformed by His gaze. 

Reflection Question:

Is my heart too hard to admit when I am wrong? Why is it so difficult for me to accept that I am not always right? What does this indicate about my ability to love?

Fall Session 1 Sunday Morning Bible Study Classes and Weekly Bible Study opportunities can be found here.

Night to Shine is a prom for individuals with disabilities (ages 14-110)! Guests are offered an opportunity to come dress shopping (at no cost) to help them find the perfect dress for them to shine! The organization is looking for gently used, current trends, short or long, small to large sizes (strong need for sizes 16+), semi formal or formal dresses. They will also take jewelry and shoes.

Gayton will be a collection spot for dress donations. If you have a donation, please bring it to the church office M-Th, 9a-3p, by the end of December.

Gayton and Better2Gether RVA have a wonderful partnership through Care Ministry. Come help show your support by volunteering or by running/walking!

The largest area of need for volunteers is Course Marshalls. This consists of wearing a safety vest and being assigned to a particular location to make sure participants are safe (ie: run out in the road, …). Gayton will also have a table set up and will hand out small Bibles and other goodies.

If you are interested contact Carolyn Miller. The time commitment is a few hours Saturday morning.

What's your favorite type of pasta sauce?

Our Food Pantry relies mostly on donations. Pick up a couple extra jars of pasta sauce during the month of October. As always, any and all donations are appreciated.

Faith & Recovery Ministry

WE ARE CALLED!!!  You’ve been feeling that pull, that call from God – to go out and spread the Gospel to your neighbors. Every week we can evangelize to our neighbors in the recovery community. We visit one men’s and one women’s recovery house weekly. Each house typically has 10-12 residents, and new residents arrive regularly, many who have never heard much about Jesus, some of who have heard but strayed, and some strong in the faith, who appreciate the fellowship. 

The typical pattern each week is to bring a hot meal, then watch an applicable, Christian video (typically a series from RightNow Media), then discuss the video and just fellowship in general. Many bonds are formed. Many come to believe. Lives are changed. We can use more volunteers and would love to have you visit with us to see if it might be the right fit for you.

Sunday Mornings in Gayton Kids

In-person Nursery Care (birth through age 2.5), Preschool Church (ages 2 - PreK) and Elementary Kids Worship (grades K-5) is scheduled to take place during our October Sundays during the 10 am Worship Service and during the 11 am Bible Study hour.

Virtual PSC & EKW services are posted in our Facebook group at 8 am each Sunday and are left up for the week.
